Shakespeare & Company - A Great Season

Last night Len & I went to Shakespeare & Co and saw Satchmo at the Waldorf.  This was a great show.   This thrilling one-man play celebrates the life of jazz musician Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong, with OBIE Award-winning actor John Douglas Thompson in the title role. Satchmo at the Waldorf marks the New England premiere of critically acclaimed author Terry Teachout's first play.

We love this play for several reasons.  It was great and Terry Teachout has been a guest at the Inn at Stockbridge several times.  He is a talented critic and now a wonderful playright.  We also love Francis Martinson a founding member of Shakespeare & Co.  We also saw Parasite Drag and Tale of the Allergist Wife.  We enjoyed them all.  Congratulations on a great season.

Terry Teachout is the drama critic of The Wall Street Journal. His books include "Pops: A Life of Louis Armstrong", "All in the Dances: A Brief Life of George Balanchine", and "The Skeptic: A Life of H.L. Mencken". His libretti include two operas by Paul Moravec, The Letter (premiered by the Santa Fe Opera in 2009) and Danse Russe (premiered by Philadelphia's Center City Opera Theater in 2011).
